ACADEMIA
Anna Lorena Schaeben holds a Master of Education in Art and Spanish and has been a doctoral researcher since 2025 in the DFG-funded Research Training Group 2661 “Connecting – Excluding: Cultural Practices Beyond Global Connectivity” at the University of Cologne. Her dissertation is supervised by Prof. Dr. Wolfram Nitsch (University of Cologne) and Prof. Armando Octavio Velázquez Soto (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) and examines migration, transit spaces, play and imagination, and the formation of cultural identity in the literature of Valeria Luiselli.
In 2025, she presented a paper on loneliness and anonymity in Tokyo—based on her artistic-research project from her time living in Tokyo—at the APARN 2025 conference and has since been a member of the Asia-Pacific Artistic Research Network. As part of the transdisciplinary research training group, her work aims to enrich literary analysis with methodological approaches from artistic research. Her research interests include contemporary Latin American literature, migration and childhood studies, cultural theory, and artistic practices as modes of knowledge production.
